Blade Leading Edge Protection
Blade Leading Edge Protection
The blades of wind turbines, the core part of the wind energy captured and converted into mechanical energy, are complex and critical in their design, ranging in length from a few metres to over a hundred metres to maximise wind energy capture. However, as the length of the blade increases, the tip speed accelerates, resulting in the front edge of the blade being susceptible to erosion in harsh weather conditions. This erosion not only affects blade performance, but also increases operation and maintenance costs. To solve this problem, Beijing Zhitian Xinhang has developed a wind turbine blade leading edge protection material, which is a special elastomer product made of wear-resistant, erosion-resistant, and weather-resistant polymer material. The product is perfectly adapted to the shape of the blade, has excellent erosion resistance and weather resistance, and can work stably in extreme temperatures, taking into account aerodynamic effects and UV protection. In addition, the hydrophobicity of our leading edge protection materials for wind turbine blades is far superior to that of similar products, effectively preventing ice cover and facilitating ice melting. This solution not only improves the durability of the blades, but also reduces long-term operating costs, which has significant economic benefits.
